New Year’s Resolutions: Home Edition
Posted on: December 21, 2016 by Signature Insurance Group

You love your home and it’s likely your biggest asset. However, in the hustle and bustle of your everyday life, some of the chores might have fallen by the wayside. It’s never too late to improve your home and increase its physical beauty and its efficiency. Therefore, focus your New Year’s resolution on improving your home. Even more importantly, make sure your home is protected with a customized Orange County Home Insurance policy.
Reduce the clutter.
First and foremost, it’s time to purge all the unnecessary clutter that has built up over the year. All the things you have acquired and shoved into a drawer needs to be addressed to keep your home looking its best. Plus, sorting through all the junk will make your home look more spacious and less dated.
Keep it safe.
Colorless, odorless gasses that can be present in homes throughout the nation cause thousands of deaths each year. Frist, check for radon. One in every fifteen homes has elevated levels and with test kits costing as little as $20 at your local hardware store, there’s no reason not to get right on that. Next, make sure you install a carbon monoxide detector on every bedroom floor in addition to fire detectors. If a chimney flue or furnace vent gets blocked or leaks, carbon monoxide could back up in your house and kill you, explains HGTV.
Reduce your carbon footprint.
When people think of going green, they usually think they have to purchase huge solar panels. However, this isn’t the case. Just use some common sense to reduce your energy bill and your carbon footprint simultaneously. Be sure to turn off lights when you’re not in the room, have electronics revert to sleep mode when they aren’t in use, invest in drought-tolerant landscaping to reduce water consumption, and turn off your AC or heat when you aren’t home.
