    Fall Driving Safety

Posted on: October 15, 2016 by Signature Insurance Group

The leaves are starting to fall and the temperatures are beginning to drop. While the cool weather might be a welcomed gift after the intense heat of summer, fall means added safety concerns on the road. Therefore, in addition to securing a SoCal Auto Insurance policy, consider the following safety advice for making it from point A to point B this autumn season.

    Never brake on leaves.

Wet leaves can be as slippery as ice. Drive slowly through them and avoid hard braking. Leaves may obscure lane lines and other road markers, so pay attention to the edge of the road and take care to stay in your lane, advises PennDOT.

    Be rain smart.

Leave a generous amount of space between you and the vehicle in front of you when it’s raining. This will allow for plenty of room to stop and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Further, always use low beams or fog lights for foggy conditions, not your high beams!

    Be cautious driving on bridges.

In cold weather, morning frost can leave an icy layer on bridges and overpasses. Be cautious about passing over such structures and slow down to be safe.

    Adjust your eyes.

We lose 1 to 2 minutes of daylight daily after the autumnal equinox according to the National Weather Service. After leaving home or the office and before hitting the gas pedal, give your eyes time to adjust to the dark, advises the Minnesota Safety Council.

At Signature Insurance Group, we understand the importance of making sure that you, your family, and your vehicles are covered in the event of an accident. Call us today at 855.972.9437 for more information on our auto insurance policies.
